Achieving “EA” status is considered the highest credential awarded by the IRS and is legally recognized throughout all 50 U.S states. As for occupational duties, enrolled agents are empowered to represent American taxpayers before the IRS on matters such as collections, tax appeals, audits, and any other tax issues. Under existing statutes, EAs are able to provide advisory services and prepare tax returns for anything that is required to report under the IRS. They provide services to entities such as individual taxpayers, corporations, trusts, and estates.
An enrolled agent is a person who has earned the privilege of representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service by either passing a three-part comprehensive IRS test covering individual and business tax returns, or through experience as a former IRS employee.
